After many years of thinking of doing a thorough pro rebuild and renewal of this bike, I think the general acceptance of "patina" has motivated me to put this bike together.

I got this Yds-3 in summer of 1964. I rode it through college and grad school (mid west protocol - about 6 months a year). Parked it for three years while in the army. In 1973, I brought it to California and rode another seven or eight years before a leaky petcock and SoCal traffic made me park it.

Some twenty years ago, I took it apart, de-gunked everything, and put most of in a cabinet. The bike is pretty much all here. It has only 9600 miles on the odometer. Needs a rebuild on the fork, tires, fuel tank cleaning and a bunch of rubber parts. I have already rebuilt the clutch and carbs.

I'm hoping there is some friendly technical help in the Yamaha forum. I'll need it!

Hello and welcome to VJMOG. You certainly have a history with that bike. There's something to be said for a bike that is meticulously disassembled, cleaned, painted, chromed, and polished until it looks better than new, but since you and the bike have been together so long, I think that your bike deserves to be ridden in it's original condition. Like they say, it's only new once. Please keep us posted with your progress.

.....Paul
