hi all, my 85 xj700 has a very annoing vibration between 55mph and 66 mph. Confused it shows up throughout the bike, everthing is fuzzy in the mirror, and my hand will start to fall asleep (sort of) if i stay in this speed zone. otherwise the bike runs great. she was tuned lean for speed, but adjusted pilots maybe 2 degrees rich. she's smoother all over except for that same spot. any help would be great thanks in advance...reserected

Buzziness can be a few things.

Does the vibe go away when you pull in the clutch at 60 mph? If it does, then it's your engine causing the vibration. If the vibes continue as you pull in the clutch, it might be a unbalanced wheel.

Also, try to keep a more looser grip. It'll keep your hand more relaxed and less prone for numbness.

thanks johnny5,thats a good thought,i'll give it a go tomorrow.as for the hand yes that does help a bit but for the most part i try to stay out of that speed range as i seams to be getting a little rougher each day. Crying or Very sad i sure hope its something no more serious then a tire, carb tweak, etc.i'll keep posting as things progress. thx again res

ok, all gone when clutch in. carbs should be ok (resently benched, gauged, etc). maybe in the tranny? theres only little over 25k on the bike but sitting around for long periods maybe caused some drying of gears that became damaged before the oil had a chance to lube? any ideas will help, thx in advance Very Happy

Some bikes just have vibes at certain rpms. I know my Kawi Vulcan vibes around 60mph, then smooths out around 70.

i hope your right and its just one of those annoying quirks that an overly picky rider, that wants the perfect bike, that hears every stinking sound and thinks the thing is going to start dropping pieces all over the hwy and leave you walking home creating a brand new dictionary of cuss words Wink on the other hand its more vibration then is comfortable to ride with .....so.....for now i'll stick with unreasonable paranoia and hope that you are correct!! thanks for your help Very Happy
