I recently took of the complete wiring harness to work on the frame, I have done this befor and put it all back together with no problem, but something is causing the brake light to be on with the lever disengaged and off when the lever is pulled. I have both the wiring diagrams tha I think most T500 owners know about and everything seems to be in the rihgt configuration. The rear brake system is working correctly. The only thing I think could be causing it is that I had to cut and splice the wires to the tail light to install a new chome/plastic backplate, but the rear wiring should be directly or indirectly wired with the front brake switch wiring- Right? Maybe I have a solder connection touching another- hate to tear out the nice heat shrink tube protecttion I put on it. Does anybody have an idea of what I am missing befor I take off the tail light? Oh and by the way I did not see the Kill Swich wiring in either diagram but I have it in the 4 way terminal wher all the orange wires go. Is that right?

Is it the brake light, or is it just the rear tail light that is supposed to stay lit anytime the headlight is on? It is the same bulb in the tail light.
I have a 1974 t500 and the rear light stays on all the time if the light switch is in the on position and the keys are in the first or second position.
Some t500 models had requirements for running lights for different countries.
Does the tail light get brighter when you apply the brake hand or foot lever?
I realize you may already know this so don't be insulted, i just don't take anything for granted because i'm very new to the DIY bike thing and overlook alot.
All light switches off, the brake light is simply working backwards-front brake lever disengaged-brake light is on, pull the lever and it goes off. I disconnected the tail light and put and idiot light to the harness and it does the same thing. I have looked at the switch in the lever ( just recently got new levers) and there is only one way it goes back together. I dont get it ,I have owned this bike for a long time and never had this problem before. Again, the brake light comes on as it should when the rear brake pedal is engaged. Thank you for your response
I just figured out what was wrong about the front brake light switch, Happy but a little feeling a little mad at myself. I had posted earlier that there was only one way the switch went back together, not true. I guess I had this stuff apart too long on this bike and also need to break down and get some glasses. I wrongly assumed that the stationary contact jacketed harness went out straight to the handlebar and I did not notice one of the stationary contacts tapered down to nothing(so the movable contact does not touch it at this point) So I turned the stationary contact/plastic housing around and Bingo! everything is hunky-dory ! So if the switch is In the correct position the harness goes out before looping back toward the handlebar/headlight. Oh man it is the little things that wil drive you crazy!
