I' doing a semi-resto on a cb160.The mufflers are junk,so I was thinking about running slash cut shorty mufflers and taping the pipes. Not an original thing but people did that alot back then.
Do you think I'll have to rejet for that? I dont really want too mess around too much with a trial and error thing.
I'm not against triing to find an original style muffler,I just think that shorty look, with tape, looks kinda good
those shorty mufflers suck go to jcwhitney and buy a dunstall replica muffler (the 27 inch with removable baffle) it will in it will be quieter and run better depending on how much packing you put in it

Anytime you change airflow, you've altered the mixture and need to adjust fuel supply accordingly. Also, backpressure from the exhaust is another issue to take into account.
You can buy kits of different jet sizes to play around with--I'm toying with the idea too. _________________ CL350-K4

On a 160, you'd definitely have to re-jet, even with Dunstall types.
They (the dunstalls) sound good, look Period, about $50 each, not bad.
I mounted a pair to a CB200 using the stock mounts !!
I think Emgo makes all the ones you see out there, except JCW.
I know for sure the Whitney units won't fit a 1-3/4" pipe like a 450.
Or instead of taping your pipes, just soak them in a bucket of MilkStone Remover to de-rust and de-funkify.
Then paint them, also cheap. Tape might look silly with bright shiny mufflers?

I was thinking of tape cuz,in order for a short muffler to mount I thought I may have to weld some lenght to the header. The tape would be to cover the weld joint.I'll probly go with a stock looking muffler the local shop can get some for around 50bucks a piece.
Does any one know if POR15 makes a header paint? I've used there product in the past on car projects(frame rails,k-frames,etc)and the stuff is practicly bullit proof.I used VHT header paint before ,maybe I didnt cure it correctly but I'm not wild about it.
