When lending your Scrambler to your buddy to get back into riding be sure to remind his 20 year old he is only to ride it with his Dad present. Seems the son was going to fast to stop when his buddies on their sport bikes hit the brakes and he laid it down to avoid hitting them... Imagine a drum brake not stopping fast enough...
He was wearing a helmet and no other protection. He will visit the burn unit tomorrow to for further work on the road rash.
The bike... It appears to have been a right sided slide and the turn signals, headlight rim and mirror etc.. are toast. I believe the tank was spared... I'll look closer when he is feeling like talking about it... and how he is going to fix it...
The scrambler was my first restoration... It must be resurrected! |

sorry to here about the accident. Hope the young kid is okay. Think of this as an opportunity to improve on things from the first restoration. |

| Found the right motor color after the restoration - one thing I wanted to do anyway. Looks like the brake lever made it into the case a little. |

Well first and foremost, it's good to see that there aren't any serious injuries. As a young rider, hopefully he's learned his lesson and will be a bit more careful from here on out.
I've insured my bike so that nobody under the age of 25 can ride it. Saves me a couple of bucks and is a good reason to keep my 19 year old brother-in-law away from it. |

sorry about your bike.the kid? well no sympathy there... the first time i road a bike i hit a tree, stayed in traction for 2 weeks, have a steel rod and limp on the left side, AND HAVE BEEN HOOKED EVER SINCE and that was almost 30 years ago. i'v had a wonderfully close relationship to the road since then ( sometimes even the other guys fault ). RIDE,RIDE,THEN RIDE SOME MORE !
peace. res _________________ 1985 xj700n

Oh man,
You seem to be taking this very well. I remember seing pictures of your bike when i joined this forum and thinking how beautiful and unique you made it.
I hope it all turns out well, you seem to have allot of experience and an eye for cool ethstetiques.
Good luck.
On the positive side we will all be looking forward to seeing pics and updates of the re-restoration project. |

Thanks, The Boy is healing, The bike is in the shop and I sure wish the tank didn't have that little dent...
It'll rise again.... and he'll help put it right. |
