My shift lever is worn out. The splines on the engine are good, but the splines on the lever itself just won't hold anymore. I have been looking for a replacement for some time with no luck. Is there any way to fix this?
Thanks. |

what kind of bike
take off lever
remove the bolt
grind off a bit of the lever at the claw. where it squeezes together
then when you reinstall the lever, the bolt will pull in the pinch tighter _________________ www.cb750c.com |

| What hondacustom said---Plus take a close look first and see if there is a tiny pc. of debris at the inside pinch point- happened to me one time, I did not even see it until I held it up the pinch area up to the sunlight. Probably a tiny pc. of one of the splines. |

It's a 1970 Suzuki T350.
There's no debris. The splines are just worn down almost completely.
If I could find a replacement shifter I'd just swap it out. But I haven't come across one in the 4 months I've been looking. |

| widen the slot by clamping it in a vise to squeeze the slot closed and then hacksaw the slot, drill out the lower threads if its threaded and use a grade 8 bolt and nut to squeeze down on the shaft the old Harley Sportsters used to have a smooth shift shaft that the lever just squeezed down on so clamping down onto a splined shaft shouldn't be a problem even if your lever is splineless |
