We have a helmet law in Alabama. Even if we didn't, I'd still wear a helmet. I wear a full-face all the time. One of my neighbors claims that helmets offer protection below 17 mph, but above that you are better off without a helmet. I think he's out of his mind. _________________ T.J. in Alabama

First part of the statement is true, the second... I strongly doubt.
When you fall, no matter how fast you are going, your *vertical* speed is always the same. Same as you fall standing up or riding a bicycle. Lower than falling from a ladder. That's what the helmet is supposed to take care of. Plus, the asphalt rash.
It's pointless to protect for more, because your neck will snap anyway. Car helmets are different since they also protect the neck.
