[i]Figured I would just take a second and introduce myself
I got off the street years ago when I sold my 72 CL350 and my 71 T250R and I sure do miss them. I have been doing the vintage mx/harescramble thing for years and will keep doing it, so getting back on the street should be a snap.
The local junk man left me a present of a 76 Kawi KH400 the other day. The rust isnt bad and it is complete less side covers and pipes. Cylinders are STD bore and may clean up with a hone but the pistons show some sieze marks. Electrics are all there as well.
I also know where my old CL350 is and may take a shot at getting it back.
Looking forward to contributing where I can and being able to ride without getting dirty for once. _________________ Andy #14u

Go and get your old bike back, that would rock. I am going to start the mods to my 71 CL350 as soon as I get this damned cast off my wrist.
Welcome to the site, I look forward to hearing what comes of your old bike. _________________ Ray #1

Thanks for the welcome.
Ray,
I asked the guy about getting the CL350 back. Might work out. He has let it sit for three years so it needs tires, carb work and probably fork seals.
I am going to make him an offer and see what happens. _________________ Andy #14u

Well, I didnt get the CL back but I did end up with a very rough, but free 76 Kaw KH400 (stock, non running, going to take a while, project) and bought a nice 74 Kaw S3 with Denco's, Marzoochi's, bars, K&N pods, a spare S3 motor and a spare S2 motor.
Going to spend some time going through the S3 to make sure it is road worthy and ready to go. Now I have to sell off some of the dirt bikes to make room. _________________ Andy #14u

Andy, the S3 is a much more fun bike and they can be turned into RD eaters without too much trouble with pipes, some port work, & H1 carbs/manifolds.
Keep us posted on this! _________________

Got the S3 running and have run it around the neighborhood a few times. I had to replace one condensor to get the left cylinder to fire.
It still doesnt rev properly above about 5k rpm but I havent run it enough to figure out if it is electrical or fuel related. I just need to get some time to run it and figure it out.
Oil pump is running at spec and oil lines are clear as well.
Here is a pic from the other day. The shocks are nice and seem to be set up for something pretty close to my weight (225#). The bars are pretty narrow, almost look like an ATV bar but they work decent.

Yahoo pictures do not hot link, you need a better picture host like www.photobucket.com that is free or paid for. _________________ Ray #1

Clean the carbs out real good and make sure all the jets are blown clean, then get some Mikuni round(screw-in type) mainjets. Stock should be around an 85, put in 92.5's or 95's with pipes/K&N's and it will haul some serious ass. Gap points @ '014 and time engine with strobe light on the LF, CF, and RF marks on the rotor. It should get right with the program.
I used to own a S3 400 triple over 20 yrs. ago and it was a haulass little bike for $200 at the time, so I know how to make 'em run. Keep us posted! _________________

Well, here is how its worked so far (pretty good)
I got the S3 running sweet and scary fast but it just didnt fit me. So when I got a nice offer while blasting around some of the local haunts, I sold it.
The next weekend, the phone rings and the guy who bought my 72 CL350 said I can have it back, for free! The catch, no title, it hasnt run in over two years, and the forks are locked up. After a couple weekends of work, I am ready for an inspection and once the paperwork comes back from the state, I will be legal. It runs just fine, and makes the little erands around town so much more fun.

A few days later, the phone rings, and a guy, who knows a guy, who knows a guy, who knows me has an old project bike of his dad's to get rid of. Needless to say, I make a short trip and bring it home. Standard bore, excellent compression, no rust in the tank, no hacked up electrics and everything works, not much surface rust on the chrome, perfect seat, but it has intermittant spark, clutch problems, and a thick layer of barn dust to be cleaned up.
Soon, I hope to have it up and running too. _________________ Andy #14u
