I personally hate automatic transmissions. I was wondering what the ratio was of manual drivers to bike operators.

I would have prefered a standard shift when I bought my Toyota Tacoma but I have a wife that drives it more than me. Confused

I drive a huge Dodge van conversion, has a 3 speed auto with overdrive.

I had sports cars, MGBs, when I was a kid, big fun and a silky smooth hydraulic clutch. Then I bought a brand new Plymouth 340 Duster in '73 with the 4 speed Hurst shifter. I put a HD pressure plate in it, and drove it in L.A. stop and go traffic. That cured me.

Now I drive a living room, sit in a Barcolounger, and set the cruise control... very comfy Wink

Drove it from Dallas to L.A. 13 times!

I have a 5 speed in the car and a 4 speed in the truck but that’s just because they came that way. Personally I would prefer an automatic in at least one of them so wifey could cart my sorry azz around town and be my designated driver. beer But I suppose you have to run what you brung. Idunno

5 speed stick in the Slowlant, because that's how Galant VR-4s come.

As a professional driver I have used just about every kind of manual shift on trucks, highway tractors, cars and buses. I can move from vehicle to vehicle quite easily, adapting is not an issue. I find it interesting that after a day of driving through city traffic I can't really recall the actual shifting process as it is so ingrained.

My motorcycle is, by far, the greatest pleasure ever spent changing gears.

(Gene, I had an 1969 MGB with electric over-drive. It was a transition year model with low-back leather seats (the tall plastic seats came out by the end of this model year) , the new style tuck and roll dash (no glovebox on the passenger side) and wire wheels with knock offs. These were the kind that used a wrench on the hub that was hit with the hammer, not the kind with the wings. If I could have only know how rare this one would have been... sigh...)

Mine were both '64s. I always wanted to get an overdrive. I had the spinners and the "Thor" brass hammer.

I drove bobtails full of sound gear all over the country with split rear ends 25-30 years ago... learned to drive in a Ford Model A truck on the ranch when I was old enough to reach the pedals, no syncros, had to double clutch it.

When I was 15 I started to rebuild Grandpa's '37 Dodge 1 ton pickup. Put a Power Wagon rear end in it, rebuilt all the brake cylinders, tuned up the motor, and the day I was 16 I was on the road in it. Wish I had kept it, but the MGs were more my style.

The Dodge had no syncros either, another double clutcher. The starter had a lever sticking through the floor to actually push it onto the flywheel to engage it and a switch on the lever to make the starter motor run.

Use to have stick shift cars/trucks but my back is fried so applying pressure to clutch petal is out. Have no problems with the clutch on bikes Wink

My mustang is an auto as well as my ramcharger. both just came that way used. I perfer manuals because I like to shift, I loved driving a frieghtliner with an eaton super 10 speed. But for off road 4 wheeling I perfer autos for easiness of it. If I ever turn my mustang into a street/strip car I'm ahead of the game because autos seem to be the perfered racing choice. Now my wifes jeep is a manual, and she hates it.

My truck has a Borg Warner T-18a.
Has the 6.32 first gear ratio, so it's really a 3 speed on the street. Also have a 4:11 rear end. So I only use the first gear for EXTREME situations.
But I like having a manual transmission.
The thing weighs over 200 with bell and output shaft, but it's a beaut. Cool

We can never have the control over a cage like we can a bike. But I can try and get close.

I love my T-18a.

I have a TH350 3 speed auto in my 442, It also has a 2200-2400 stall converter and a B&M stage 2 shift kit. I can complain its the originally tranny and near 200k miles I know for a fact me and the 2 previous owners beat the hell out of this car and this tranny is still going strong. When I get done building my new engine (bored and stroked smallbock Olds and set up for nitrous) I'm stuffing a TKO 5 speed manual conversion kit in her. I can't complain about autos but their not as cool and fun as a manual set up

Well, I am in the market for a new truck now. When I went to the dealership and asked for only manuals, I got some strange looks. When I said it wasnt the price issue, but a transmission issue, I got even stranger looks.
<sigh> I miss my old truck.

LOL the dealersship sales personnel will try to say that a "manual" transmission is an automatic one with a repair book included. Twisted Evil

I would rather work on a manual any day compared to an automatic.
Yeah, you have a clutch to worry about. Big whoop.
I don't get along with sales men. Not even the ones at my work.
