all of my cars have automatics except this little '88 chevy beretta i bought to play SCCA racer with. it has a 5 speed. this tranny suits this car perfectly, and makes it a blast to drive, along with the GT suspension and 16" low profile tires and wheels, it scoots around the orange cones pretty good. my Jeep is an automatic, and this really actually helps when playing in the mud and snow.....brake and gas, brake and gas would burn up a clutch pretty quick, but the GM turbo 400s that they put in jeeps back then are pretty bullet-proof. my skylark is an auto, as well. its a cruiser and a lot of fun to putt around in. i have had many cars and trucks with either type of tranny, i prefer automatics unless i NEED the direct power connection of a manual for pulling or other grunt work.

Yeah, two things I would use an auto for.
Rock Crawling, and quarter mile if I had a car that was 9 or under.

But with proper transfer cases, or a double setup, you do not burn the clutch up to bad even rock crawling. You do have to have some fancy feet though. And it is easier to use an auto. But I still feel like I have much more control over a manual, and there is commonly mush less power wasted from the engine to the wheels.
