is there a way to hide or disable this section on the left side of the site? it causes my browser to reload itself every 5 seconds or so and is irritating. thanks!

Not without completely removing it from the site. I have tried other IM systems that don’t refresh like that and they don’t work very well. The reason being is that you have to be constantly moving around the site or be doing something so the server knows you are still actively on the site and didn’t simply leave without logging out.

That makes it very difficult to hold a conversation because the first thing people do when they IM each other is stop moving around the site or even completely minimize their browser window.

I have looked at other options. But most have serious flaws making them next to useless. This one just works, its reliable and you don’t need a PHD in computer science in order figure it out. You just click on someone’s name and fire away.

Periodically I go out and scour the net looking for a better solution, but so far no luck.

The only other option would be to remove IM’s completely but im not sure that would be particularly desirable since IM’s are such a powerful communications tool and people do use it on a daily basis.

Hope this clarifies.

Dave.

It took me a few weeks to realize that my browser was blocking IMs as popups.

Yea that’s the down side. It sets off popup blockers when that little window refreshes. It’s the same thing with those notifications of new PM's. I wish I could do something about it, but that is completely out of my control.

Cheers,

Dave
