"On Sunday, July 20, 2008, Roger Smith, V.J.M.C. #135 - A.M.C.A. #1718, of Lake Orion, Michigan brought his restored 1966 Suzuki X-6 Hustler to the Antique Motorcycle Club of America’s 2008 National competition in Wauseon, Ohio. The A.M.C.A. is the oldest vintage motorcycle group in America and they feature the most stringent judging procedures in the sport. Motorcycles entered must be 35 years old with many of the competing bikes manufacture dates going back to the 1920’s – 1960’s.

The AMCA judging procedure includes several required steps, including competing in the Junior and Senior divisions first and those levels must be won before an antique motorcycle can be considered for the ultimate AMCA National award – The Winners Circle - Preservation Award.

Smith’s 1966 Suzuki X-6 Hustler was restored by Roger. The motorcycle placed 1st in the Junior division, at the 2007 AMCA National Wauseon event, then it scored high enough to receive 1st place in the Senior division, at the 2007 A.M.C.A. National Davenport, Iowa competition .

A team of expert judges, including Gregory Reed, a long time Honda Dealer in Ohio, spent over an hour going over the Suzuki from top to bottom. Their inspection included the frame, engine, instruments, wiring, wheels, seat, brakes, fenders, exhaust system, all nuts and bolts along with the plating and overall paint finish.

After the exhaustive review, Smith’s Suzuki was awarded the A.M.C.A. National Winners Circle - Preservation Award on Sunday, July 20, 2008. This highest level A.M.C.A. award, was presented in front of the attendees by Mr. Kevin Valentine, the A.M.C.A.’s Chief Judge from New Jersey.

“To win the highest award from the prestigious A.M.C.A. makes all the work that goes into restoring and showing a vintage vehicle worthwhile.” Smith said.

At all future A.M.C.A. National events, the Suzuki will be placed in the Winners Circle area of the exhibition hall, for visiting spectators to be able to view and ask Roger questions about his champion Suzuki.

This is great news.

The AMCA has excellent established events,
like Rhinebeck and Davenport, where thousands of people
attend and there are hundreds of exhibitor booths.

Our Japanese bikes, that were manufactured before
1973, are now eligible for AMCA judging, (35 year rule).

Their judges are extremely thorough, but when you
win a class at a National AMCA event, it is something special.

Good job Roger!
