Background:
Bike is a 1972 DS7. I've had two strokes for a long time (DT100, RZ350, RD500, etc), but there has been a several year gap before I obtained this running bike.

I haven't had it long, but only once has it failed to start right away, usually a 1 or 2 kick bike.
Was cleaning out the garage so it sat outside for a couple of days, battery is now dead and bike will not kick or pop start.
Am I wrong in thinking that it should kick even with a dead battery? This seems rather to coincidental, dead battery/no start.
It will NOT start even when jump/pop starting it down hill, not even close, just chugs, but no go.

SHOULD it start with just the kick starter? If not then why the battery drained is a big deal, any thoughts would be appreciated. I'm only driving this thing 20 miles a week to teach class, maybe a bit more or less, but certainly not enough to offset any slow electricity loss?

You guys have to help me, if I can't keep this one running, my wife will resist letting me get more! Shocked

Hi meyerse, those are some nice bikes. Anyone on here feel free to correct me, but from my dealings with these, yes, you do need a good battery for it to run. Just do an easy check, put the battery charger on it, give it juice, and see if it will start.

Cool, I have that problem with a similar Yamaha, an old CS5. Haven't got to it yet but that is its only problem. Keep us posted on how it goes!
