Well, so you can rest comfortably, one is in my garage, and had it's first road test today, it did very well, took me 50+ miles and back with nary a sputter. I always thought the xs650 was a classic and my 79 is living proof, so I think a second road test is in order tommorow.....hmmmmm, theres this ice cream shop, nuff said......Blue

I am fortunate to live in a small town and am only maybe 2 miles from the twisties and the country, but Michigan roads are the worst. When I first moved here in the 70s I asked someone and they said Gen. Deorge Armstrong Custer was from Michigan and he said don't do anything till I get back. I am also fortunate to live in a block that has 3 other families that own bikes, the neighbor 2 houses down does a lot of late night vollies on his Hiabusa, I suppose some don't like it but as for me "ya gotta luv it"........Blue

That '79 is a good investment. I had a red one just like yours. I rode it all over the country for nine years and it never let me down. I just kept the oil changed, the valves adjusted, points and plugs as necessary. And in all those years, I never even changed the condenser. The '79s are bulletproof.

Here are some Yams for you. The 78 XS650 is a garage queen; the 82 Vision is a daily rider, and the 77 XS360 comes out only in times of war.

man i wish i lived on a block like blue, only 2 bikes on my road one beside my house, and one at the end of the road, but they cant stand the sound of mine,i guess having a 2 cylinder 2 stroke 40 year old yamy thats louder than the new harley or kawasaki street bike on my block must bother them.and i only start the old beast once in a while, and i don't mess around with it at night, unlike the guy's on my block, blasting the pipes at night and giving you the evil eye when i even give my bike a little gas in the day.they are probably the type that thinks vintage bikes are old junk.there loss.

As someone who lives in a college town, i can tell you there is not enough appreciation for the classics, especially in today's not-so-young youth. my 82 seca has yet to fail me, and all around me r busas & the like. you can be sure my seca sees the road everyday i can put it there; changed the oil today and feelin like a nice ride through the country tomorrow. Too bad there's no twisties here, just long, flat roads with gentle, sweeping curves. Guess you can't have it all...

Yeah, My wife and I ride in Indiana occasionally, and the roads are pretty straight, although the Wabash Valley area is way nice. I visit my brother in Denver and I fly out, he has 3 bikes so I get to ride when I'm there, I don't know how he does it, Denver is all interstate, unless you go east on secondary roads and then it's drive in a straight line 8 miles, turn left, repeat and so on, a run to the west is the mountains, a little twisty and uphill as you might guess. I really used to love living in N.Y. upstate near the Canadian border and the Adirondacks and going to Vermont and N.H. with the White mts. and Green mts. and the Belknap area near Laconia and the Lake George region of N.Y. is unbelievable, probably why they hold The Aspencade there. nuff of this, now I got to go ride, Blue
