Hi folks as you may have noticed there are a few things missing here like sort of everything. LOL
Well in a nutshell what has happened is some spammer has found a way to hack into the email system on the server. This has nothing to do with your personal email addresses or anything like that, its more like they tapped into the server to use it as a radio tower to send out spam.
I don’t know at this time exactly how the hack was performed so I have shut everything down that I can without taking the site completely offline and disabled the servers ability to even send email.
My gut feeling tells me this was a pro and the server will need to be rebuilt from scratch. This could take several days.
Its no big deal, I have backups. It’s just a pain in the ass and is time consuming.
So if I end up having to pull the plug for a while, that’s what’s going on. Seriously, I have done this before and its really no big deal.
Cheers, _________________ |

You would think they would go after a site not run by a network admin guru like you Dave. Thanks for the update. _________________ "warm winds blowin, heat and blue skies, and a road that goes forever"

Ok here’s the deal. The server is going to have to be rebuilt from scratch so we will be offline for a while. I’m just doing a final backup. Once that is complete I will be submitting a ticket to have the server operating system reloaded. It will probably take several days to get things back online.
Cheers,

Ok folks here is the latest, I was able to locate where the problem was originating from and stop it.
As it turned out I found a malicious script located on another site that I host here on the server. That script has since been removed and there is no indication that they got admin or “root” level access to the server.
That being the case I guess we now have a clean bill of health and I won’t have to hassle with rebuilding the server which is required any time someone gains root access.
Hey that works for me. I can think of a hell of a lot more productive things to do with my time than rebuilding servers.
Cheers,

I have yet to see that turbo bike in person and really would like to see it before I die of old age. _________________ Ray #1

| Or finishing that 78 Goldwing (just like mine). You must not sleep Dave if you can find time to do computer stuff and restore bikes. You are the man and we really, really apreciate your efforts. I just got back from Daytona Bike Week so I had not even noticed the glitch. Well done! |
