hey fellas, i have a few engines for a 1967 kawasaki a1, as well as two frames, so i figured i would screw around on one and make a vintage race bike. does anyone know of a way to convert an a1 engine to an a1r? if not, any good parts places you know of for my bike?

I see you posted this toward the end of last year. Have you found any information since then? I'm always looking for information myself. I have an A1 and an A7. To the best of my knowledge, the engines were primarily unchanged from stock between the A1 and A1R. I think the carbs were bowl-less units (Mikuni M26R) fed by a pump to each unit. The covers were cut up for higher air consumption rather than going through the air cleaner, and the chambers supposedly added considerably to the engine's performance. Still, a stock A1 had about 31hp and the R about 40. Not a huge difference.

Jeremy

Use the carbs, rotary cases, and necessary covers, rubber carb boots, etc. from a late model A7 on an A1--wakes 'em right up as the carbs are 28mm on late model 350cc A bikes that I know of and all this stuff bolts right on, too. We snaked a best modified '60's 2-stroke trophy at the 2-stroke bike show in So Cal a few years back with a '66 A1 Samurai with this setup & a set of one-off Spec II expansion chambers. This bike did an honest 108 mph with my big(6'5" & 250#)ass on it and felt like an A1R powerwise although a more usable powerband with A7 streetbike spec port layout.
Keep us posted, I like to know the old rotary twins from Kawie are still out there!
Cool

sr71cbx,

Any chance you can post or send me a pic or two of the bike? I'm getting ready to have the frame of my 67 A1 with a 350 in it powder coated an aluminum color. The engine is starting to come back together (polishing all of the engine covers is a real @?#$%! in the %&$@#! - but it's lookig good), and my goal is to have her back on the road late summer. I just picked up new knee grips for the tank and a co-worker is painting all the sheet metal Kawasaki Green. I know, frame color and sheet metal aren't what they're supposed to be, but I'm trying to bring her back with more of a European look and stand out a little bit. Where can a person have a set of chambers built for it? Any chance you know what decals are supposed to be on the oil tank and sidecover of a 350 with standard ignition? I like some stock items. I'll post pics soon.

Regards,
Jeremy

a friend of mine in pleasaton Ca had some replica A1R chambers made (to order only) 18 months to 2 years ago?
i can possibly find out where he had them made(if he will part with the info??)
i bought a set to order and can dig out how much they were(not cheap from memory, but i did have the additional shipping to the UK??)
thinks went worse than that when he sent me three left hand and one right hand!!(A friend also had a set!)
cost me $90 to post it back!!!
im sure they stand me at $700 although that does include all the postage charges!!
