Just purchased a 1975 (12/74 on the VIN) Suzuki GT185.
8200 miles and in pretty nice shape. Side covers are mint. Tank has a chip or two and the clear coat patchy in parts, but the chrome should be beautiful with a little work. Seat appears to have been recovered at some point, but was well done and looks nice. Mechanic is going over it now, but it turns over no problem. Electrics seem to work fine. Getting a new battery and good carb cleaning this week.
Best of all, I paid $150.
Anybody have suggestions on a good place to get parts? I monitor ebay pretty good, but if anyone knows of a good source for Vintage Suzuki parts, I would be most appreciative.

I'd love to see some photos. We have a '72 TS185 (Trail/Street). It's just a bike we've used around my dad's ranch for years, but I've been tossing the idea around about putting it back on the street. I know your model is a bit different, but it would be great to see a photo for comparisons sake. _________________ Randy

It's perfect, wow! And it's a TWIN! I thought it would be a thumper. That's nothing like our bike. (your bike is a lot cooler).
Thanks for posting a photo. _________________ Randy

Yep, pretty neat little bikes.
BTW, 'thumper' is generally meant to apply to 4-stroke singles, not all singles. From the exhaust note, y'know: thump Thump THUMP THUMP.
2-strokes are 'ring-dings' from the sound when you blip the throttle.... rrrRRING d' ding ding ding

My 10 year old son finished his 1972 TS185 Last year and is now in the middle of his 1973 GT250. It will probably get done some time next summer.
His bike next to my ELR at Tulsa last year..
and the 250 when we brought it home:
Nice find on the GT185. he got his GT250 for $375. Could have rode it home but it was only 20* and a 4 hour ride.

Hi,
I have a red 1975 GT185 sitting in my barn, and I would like to sell it. It probably could only be used for parts. I am located in Massachusetts but I could ship parts.
It has a good tank and seat. The chrome has some rust, but could be polished back up. All of the directional's, and controls are there except for clutch lever.
Let me know if you know anyone who would be interested.
Thanks,

I recently bought a '76 GT250 and found a lot of what I needed at BikeBandit.com
Good for reference, has schematics of all areas, and will indicated whether the part is still available. |

| Hey I also just bought a GT185 but mine is from 74. Not many differences but I'm looking for insight as to why sometimes it will start fine and run well but then out of nowhere itll stop and then I wont be able to start it again. The bike only has 1000 miles on it and has spent most of its life in storage. I took the carbs out and cleaned them as well as a few other minor fixes. I'm stumped as to why it wont stay running. Any advice? |

Our bikes are identical, Kirk. Same color and pinstripe on the tank.
whiterhino: I don't know what to tell you. I'm having a problem on a Honda where I cleaned the carbs but there is sediment in the tank and it is getting sucked into the carbs and clogging the idle jets. Old bikes tend to get rust in the gas tank and if it isn't addressed, cleaning the carbs just makes way for more partilces in the tank to clog them up.
Hope this helps,

I recently was given a 74-75 185 by my uncle the motor is apart in a box next to the bike I am unsure if it is worth putting the money into. I love the looks of the bike and its not in too bad of shape specially for FREE!!!!!! I would love to find a ready to run motor cause I know my way around cars ok but bikes are a whole new thing any help on the best way to get started would be great. and if anyone knows where i could get a book like a shop manual that would show where all the bolts and every thing goes that would also be great.
Thanks
