i have a 1977 xs400 that I'd like to tweak a little...make it look a bit more like a cafe racer...tank, and seat seem like relatively easy things to change out, but i'm wondering about the wheels...the current wheels on the bike are cast 7-spoke wheels; but i'd really like to have wire wheels for this bike.
anyone had success finding wire wheels that would fit this bike? seems like a older yamaha RD wire wheels might work, but if possible i'd like to keep the disk brake on the back and not have to change to a drum brake in order to get wire wheels. any thoughts, advice? thanks!

A few years later, say '79 thru '83, Yamaha themselves offered the XS400 as a 'Heritage' Special, which was an econo model with spoke wheels. Some had spokes with front disc brake, some went really econo with front drum. All spokers had rear drum.
I'm thinking you're going to have a hard time finding spoke wheels PLUS rear disk. The OEMs just weren't doing that back in those days. The only other bike I can think of that may have had spoke wheels with rear disk might have been the mid-'70's Kawasaki KZ750 twins. Can't remember off-hand. The KZ400s had spoke wheels with front disk or front drums and rear drums.
