I can't seem to get the dang thing off! Is there a clip? It comes about and inch out and stops...

I think you have to remove the right engine cover first.
There's a circlip and the dreaded spring on the other side.

Thx for the reply

I have the side case loose and pulled out as far as It will go without removing the kickstarter. I can see what looks like a good size washer with a gap in it, I think this is holdin it on. How do you take that clip off?

That's called a circlip or snap ring. You'll need some snap ring pliers - go to Wal Mart or somewhere, buy a set for cheep.
