Looks like my pipes are getting near the end of the useful lives. In lieu of a direct replacement set off eBay, what other options do I have? I was looking at the Triumph Scrambler exhaust systems--nice but pricey.

Your best bet would be to fabricate something. Scrambler pipes are very rare these days. I do have a set of used ones, but if you do not want a direct replacement then CB pipes are the way to go.
the thing about changing over to the CB pipes is slightly more involved than just switching pipes and mufflers, the CL footpeg bars won't allow the CB pipes to pass thru so they will need changed to the CB style and the rear brake lever and lever pivot bar (also carries the centerstand) will need changed out also........ I just changed out a CL450 to a CB setup

Actually the CB/CL 350 use the same brake pedal, exact same part number (46500-317-000) - but the step bars are different, as you indicate.
350 step bars show up on EBay pretty frequently, so you may want to think about a CB-style pipe.
CL pipes in any sort of decent condition are rare and BIG BUCKS !!

The look of the stock pipes are a big part of the CL design, and I'd hate to deviate from it.
I won an OK set on eBay which should last me a while. After that, I'm thinking of trying something with a set of repro Triumph T120/TR6 cans on the stock headers. The Triumph muffler design has that "pea-shooter" look of the stock CLs, but a tad bit bigger.
Also bought a set of generic bologna-cut turnouts to see how they looked--not great too lunky for the CL--Maybe down low on the CB they'd be OK, but not in proportion to the rest of the CL in the high position--nice mufflers for $100 though. _________________ CL350-K4

If you want to retain the CL look, you can always get the exhaust pipes re-chromed, then put on some pea-shooter type mufflers - I think Harley has some of those, too. One of the guys on the 450 Forum uses them.
Re-chroming will be very expensive, be warned. And if the pitting is real bad, they may not be able to re-chrome and give you a warranty. But if done successfully, they'l look better than new.
