Evil or Very Mad Does anyone have a clue to why my X-6 is over reving?I posted a topic earlier and Steve gave me some great advice about the bike not starting...kind of a plug problem which turned out to be a throttle problem as the throttle was stuck closed...thought everything was gonna be skippy but now the bike is doing a blistering rev...I mean redline time...wow...anyway, did all the adjustment in /out whatever...throttle...pilot screw and still she blasts off...I ordered a repair manual for the bike but would appreciate anyone who can think of why off the top of their heads this over reving is happening...the throttle cable moves up and down inside the mixing chamber thingy and it moves freely at the throttle grip soooo...kinda frustrating when you put out big bucks for your dream bike and have not even had the chance to ride it yet...bought the bike 10 days ago and would really like to ride her...thank you for hearing my sad woes.Marla.

Are the carb slides in backwards? I did exactly that many years ago on a Yamaha 2-stroke twin and it took me a day of messing with it before I found the problem. The carb slide doesn't have to be up very much in its bore to cause a runaway engine. Check & see if the slides are all the way down in their respective bores and that the alignment tab is not missing/jammed n the slide bore. Cool

I can ask my Suzi wrench when I get back to town if that doesn't do it.

Shocked ...YES!!!I believe that you are correct as I did move the carb slides while in the process of checking this out of control engine rev...is there a particular indication of where the slides should be?The right side carb slide as you sit on the bike has a little like tab...the left side does not have this little tab...would be great if it just kinda popped into place huh?Thank you so much for this excellent theory...this is one of the reasons I joined this forum...great people who love the art of classic Japanese motorcycles...wish you were here I would give you a super lip lock.Marla

Here is another common thing. The throttle cable jacket may be hung up on the edge of a ferrule. Make sure your cable is all the way in. Heck, disconnect the cable and use the idle screws to make it run to start with. Make sure the carb top is screwed on correctly and all the way. Could be a lot of things.

here's a good site with exploded drawings,
a couple years newer than your TC250 but not to much changed on them
check carb drawing to see if you've got assembly correct

Marla, the tab should fit into a slot on the carb body, or vice versa. If the slot and tab are not aligned correctly, the slide will not sit properly and can get stuck or cause over-revving. Also be sure that the locking rings on the top of the carbs are screwed down all the way, and that the gasket is in there too, with it's tab fitting into the notch on the top of the carb barrel. Either of these can cause the slide to sit in a position other than where it is supposed to sit, causing erratic or excessive running of the engine.

Good luck!
