So i bought a non-running 1985 honda shadow 700 with a previous owner who claims it ran only two months ago with a battery hooked up to it and a funnel-fed fuel system hooked up. The 4 fuses behind the headlight are not blown, but with the battery from my trucked hooked up to the bike i get absolutely nothing. No lights come on and the starter isn't engaging or turning. Also there is a connector on the air filter cover that i can not find a partner for... there are four on the cover and the one that is missing its other half is a bu/bl and gr wire. Thanks for your time and any help at all

The best thing to do would be to work your way though the system start at the battery make sure earth wire is connected to frame well and ignition wires and the unit itself is connected and working could be corrosion on wires stopping connection? same thing with fuse box and relays.
A process of elimination. or bite the bullet and get an auto sparky.

See below link to 1986 Shadow 700 wire map

I had big trouble with my 1973 suzuki a50 which has a 6v system I asked all the auto sparkys in town to look at it but they all said na mate no idea about the old 6v stuff we could have it for weeks and not even fix it.

So I had to get the wiring map and study up and teach myself from scratch to wire the bike took me about a year and a few fuses lol.
